The Amish Woodshop

In 1987, with humble beginnings, the “The Amish Woodshop Collection” was founded. We started handcrafting our own furniture in a small woodshop located in upstate New York. As the demand for our own handcrafted furniture grew, the journey to seek out small quality woodworking shops throughout the country began. We found that some select Amish furniture builders could meet the quality standards that our customers had become accustom to. We work very closely with our Amish woodshops to ensure that our original quality standards are consistently adhered to.

Why We’re Different
Authentic Amish Craftsmanship:  Our furniture is crafted in over 40 individual Amish shops located throughout the country.

Choices:
Most of our pieces are available in choices of six woods as well as up to six different stain colors for each species of wood.  Most pieces come with your choice of hardware.

Quality of Our Wood:
Our Amish woodshops use the best quality hardwoods that are kiln dried to assure proper moisture content, which helps to prevent splitting and cracking.  To maintain this proper moisture content, your home should maintain a level of humidity around 35%.

Three Step Sanding Process:
The first step involves a belt type sander and removes all planer marks.  The second, started immediately before the staining process, is done with a hand held, air-powered sander in which the craftsman uses his free hand to feel the woods smoothness.  To ensure a smooth finish, the third sanding is done by hand with sandpaper, after the sealer has been applied.

Quality Finish:
All of our stains are hand applied, and then the sealer and catalyzed varnish is sprayed to ensure a smooth and even finish.  Each piece is resistant to water, nail polish remover and alcohol so that it is appropriate for everyday use.

Quality Drawer Construction:
To ensure that your drawers will maintain their shape for generations, the drawer’s feature dovetail joints on both the front and the back.  Most drawers are made of the same wood as the piece you choose and are finished so that fine clothing will not be snagged by rough edges.  There are smooth riding drawer slides on each side of all of the drawers, which are guaranteed for life.  The depth of the drawers in the chests, dressers, hutches, etc. reaches the full depth of the cabinet and thus gives you more storage space.

Door Construction:
All of our raised or flat panel doors consist of a five-piece construction with a true solid wood panel.

Backs of Furniture:
The backs of all of our furniture are wood.  No cardboard or particleboard is used.

Solid Tables:
Our tables feature one-inch thick tops and are finished on the bottom side to block moisture, which helps to minimize warping and cracking.  Equalized, geared guides are used on both sides of our pedestal tables and heavy-duty wood guides are used on our leg tables.

Our furniture is not built on an assembly line or in a factory.
Amish artisans in small wood shops located on their homestead build every single piece with care and personal attention.  Once the Amish artisan receives your order, the building begins.  Before your furniture leaves the shop, the builder makes sure that your furniture meets the high standards they demand.  Each piece is unique.
